Southern Miss Seeks Funds for Pete Taylor Park Renovation

Southern Miss Athletics has launched a public fundraising campaign for a proposed renovation of Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field, outlining upgrades to the home of Golden Eagle baseball while aiming to retain its established character.

The initiative, called “Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow,” would add premium seating and hospitality areas, improve fan amenities and expand baseball operations facilities. The announcement also opens fundraising through gifts, naming opportunities and other investments, the athletic department said.

Plans include a new main entrance and a relocated Roost entrance intended to improve access, traffic flow and safety. Proposed seating and hospitality changes include renovated and additional suites, a Left Field Landing, and redesigned seating behind home plate. Southern Miss said the home-plate area would retain its current overall seating capacity.

Other proposed work would add covered parking, power and infrastructure at The Roost, and update the first-base terrace. A new right-field gathering area for fans and students is also planned. The first-base concourse would receive expanded concessions, upgraded restrooms and dedicated merchandise space.

The project would relocate and expand the existing hitting facility and reconfigure baseball operations areas. Head coach Christian Ostrander said the performance center would aid player development and that added suites and gathering spaces would offer fans more ways to watch games. He also said the improvements could help with recruiting.

“The vision is not to change what makes The Pete special,” athletic director Jeremy McClain said. “It is to build around it.” He said the project is intended to preserve the ballpark’s atmosphere while preparing it for future generations.

Built in 1984, Pete Taylor Park has evolved alongside the Southern Miss baseball program, the athletic department said. Fans, alumni and others can view renderings, learn about giving opportunities and request information through the project website.

Renewals for 2027 Southern Miss baseball season tickets are available, the announcement said. Current holders can renew their seats for the upcoming season.
