HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss football coach Blake Anderson addressed the media Tuesday at the Duff Athletic Center, discussing the Golden Eagles’ upcoming road game at Troy on Oct. 6. The contest, set for 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium, will be the teams’ Sun Belt Conference opener.
Southern Miss (1-3) seeks to end a three-game losing streak with the matchup against the Trojans (2-2). The game will be televised on ESPN2, with Clay Matvick calling play-by-play and Rocky Boiman as analyst. The Southern Miss Sports Network will broadcast a pregame show starting at 5:30 p.m., with John Cox, Lee Roberts, and sideline reporter Jason Baker on the call.
During the news conference, Anderson emphasized the team’s improvement and resilience. “I couldn’t be more proud of how they played Saturday night,” he said. “They looked different from previous weeks, and their effort and attitudes kept getting better. That’s the team I know we can be.”
He acknowledged the team’s recent struggles against Auburn and UConn but highlighted their performance in the last game. “Our defense was phenomenal, and our special teams kept us in it,” Anderson said. “The offense started slow against a good defensive front but gradually gained momentum and had more explosive plays than our opponents.”
Anderson stressed the importance of maintaining a winning mindset regardless of circumstances. “We have one standard: to find a way to win, no matter who we play or where,” he said. “It’s my responsibility to put our guys in position to succeed, and I take full responsibility for not doing that enough so far.”
The coach credited the team’s culture and leadership for their response after tough losses. “Our locker room is unselfish and accountable,” Anderson said. “They’ve bought into our culture, and I’m proud of their resilience. The results will come if they continue to work.”
