Samantha Parris Wins Consolation Bracket at ITA South Regionals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Junior Samantha Parris of Millsaps College won the singles consolation bracket at the NCAA Division III ITA South Regionals over the weekend at the Farm and Forge Club.

Parris lost her opening match to Centre College, 6-3, 6-3, but rebounded strongly. She defeated Covenant College, 6-4, 6-2, and Berry College, 7-5, 6-2, in subsequent matches.

In the back draw final, Parris lost the first set, 6-4, but came back to win the second set, 6-4. The match was decided by a super tiebreaker, which Parris won, 10-5, earning her the consolation title.

Freshman Gabryelle Habetz also advanced past the first round of the back draw in straight sets. She was eliminated in a competitive second-round match.

The team’s performance signals a bright future for the Millsaps women’s tennis program as they prepare for the upcoming spring season. Schedules for both the men’s and women’s teams will be announced in the coming weeks and posted at gomajors.com.
