MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Southern Miss lost to Memphis in three straight sets Thursday at Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The Golden Eagles dropped the match 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.
Southern Miss (8-2) was led offensively by Sadie McAda, who totaled 17 kills. Sunni Sheppard contributed 13 digs defensively, while Diana Wells added eight kills. Elly Stewart finished with five kills and two service aces. Allie Hazelwood dished out 34 assists and recorded five digs.
The Golden Eagles opened the match with a quick lead after Aubrey Judd’s kill, but Memphis responded with a 5-0 run to take control. Southern Miss rallied to within one point in the first set but could not overcome the Tigers, who closed out the set 25-19.
In the second set, Southern Miss took an early lead but Memphis built a 16-13 advantage. The Golden Eagles responded with a 4-0 run to take the lead but ultimately fell 25-21 after Memphis regained control. The third set saw Memphis jump out early, but Southern Miss tied it at 13-13 with back-to-back service aces from Stewart. The Tigers pulled away late, winning 25-21 and securing the match victory.
