Jackson State enters AFCA Top 25 after SWAC win

WACO, Texas — Jackson State has cracked the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Top 25 for the first time this season after a 35-17 victory over Southern in its Southwestern Athletic Conference opener.

The Tigers, now 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, received votes last week and moved into the top 25 at No. 23. They are just behind Mercer (No. 21) and Harvard (No. 22), and ahead of Campbell and Southern Illinois.

The top 10 includes Montana State, South Dakota State, Tarleton State, Montana, Stephen F. Austin, Lehigh, North Dakota, Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay, and Youngstown State. Other ranked teams include Illinois State, South Carolina State, Lamar, Idaho State, UC Davis, South Dakota, Richmond, West Florida, Northern Arizona, and Colgate.

Jackson State is set to travel to Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday to face Alabama A&M at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in the Gulf Coast Challenge.
