Christian Brothers beats Delta State 4-0 to close non-conference schedule

Cleveland, Miss. — The Delta State University men’s soccer team fell 4-0 to Christian Brothers University on Wednesday afternoon at Delta Field. The Buccaneers scored an own goal in the 11th minute and added three more goals in the second half to secure the victory.

Christian Brothers improved to 2-3 this season, while Delta State moved to 2-3-1. The Statesmen managed 11 shots, including two on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net against Buccaneers goalkeeper Grant Clothier, who recorded two saves in the shutout.

Daniel Huerta led Delta State with three shots, two of which were on target. Romario Castro added a team-high four shot attempts. Christian Brothers held a slight edge in total shots, 16-11, and converted five of those on goal into four scores. Both teams finished with five corner kicks each.

The Buccaneers took a 1-0 lead into halftime and doubled their advantage immediately after the break on a penalty kick. They added goals in the 79th and 86th minutes to seal the win.

Max Alonso played all 90 minutes in goal for Delta State, making two saves. The team will open conference play next Wednesday at home against Union University.
