BMCU’s Porter named SSAC Barnes & Noble Scholar-Athlete
The Southern States Athletic Conference announced the 2022 Barnes & Noble College Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team and Scholar-Athlete of the Year Friday.
Blue Mountain Christian’s Will Porter (JR/Pontotoc, Miss.) earned a spot on the prestigious list with a 3.38 GPA, adding to his growing list of achievements.
William Carey’s Carson Barlow was named the SSAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, posting a 3.63 GPA as a business administration major.
To be eligible, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in both academic and athletic standing, must be starters or important reserves, have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and have competed in 50 percent of competitions.
BMCU head coach Kristi Robbins said, “Will is a champion in the classroom, as well as athletics. He is the epitome of a student-athlete and the kind of guy you need to lead your team. I’m so happy he has been recognized.”
