Blue Mountain volleyball beats William Carey in four sets
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — The Blue Mountain Christian volleyball team earned a home victory Thursday, defeating William Carey in four sets inside Tyler Gym.
The Volley Toppers claimed the first set 25-19, aided by 13 kills and holding William Carey to a .026 hitting percentage. The Crusaders responded in the second set, winning 25-19 to even the match.
Blue Mountain regained control in the third set, limiting William Carey to eight kills and a negative hitting percentage in a 25-15 victory. They closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.
Salice Speed and Marissa Gerleman led Blue Mountain’s attack with 12 kills each. Gerleman hit .550, committing just one error on 20 attacks, while Speed added 18 digs and three service aces. Olivia Lewis contributed seven blocks, and Gerleman added five.
Defensively, Abbi Williams recorded a match-high 26 digs. Valeria Velez added 10 digs, six kills, and three aces, and Teelie Tyer chipped in four kills and four digs. The team finished with nine total blocks, compared to six for William Carey.
Blue Mountain used multiple setters, with Sydney Tague leading with 17 assists. Olivia Domino added 10 assists, and Brenyn Wilbanks had nine. The team out-hit William Carey .182 to .085 and held advantages in kills, aces, blocks, and digs.
The victory secures another SSAC win for the Volley Toppers. They are scheduled to face Mobile tomorrow at 1 p.m. in another conference matchup.
