Blue Mountain Christian opens SSAC volleyball season with sweep over Andrew College

Blue Mountain Christian started its SSAC volleyball season with a straight-set victory over Andrew College on Thursday inside Tyler Gymnasium. The Toppers won the match 25-18, 25-7, 25-19.

Blue Mountain opened strongly, recording 18 kills and hitting .452 in the first set to take the lead. The Toppers maintained momentum into the second set, limiting Andrew to just two kills and a negative hitting percentage, 25-7. They sealed the match with a 25-19 win in the third set, despite Andrew’s efforts to stay competitive.

The Toppers finished with 41 kills and a .341 hitting percentage, while holding Andrew to 17 kills and a .000 hitting percentage. BMCU also led in aces (9-5), blocks (8-5), assists (38-14), and digs (44-26).

Valeria Velez and Marissa Gerleman each had 10 kills, with Velez adding four aces. Salice Speed contributed nine kills and nine digs. Brenyn Wilbanks dished out 18 assists, and Sydney Tague added nine. Defensively, Abbi Williams and Speed each recorded nine digs, with Velez adding seven. Olivia Lewis and Mattie Hopper each had four blocks, while Gerleman added three.

Blue Mountain returns to action Saturday, hosting Faulkner in another SSAC matchup.
