Tupelo Tops Pontotoc in Jamboree

Basketball Recap: Tupelo vs. Pontotoc (Girls)

Fulton, MS – Two of the top teams in Northeast Mississippi met at Itawamba Community College for a preseason jamboree matchup.  

Tupelo jumped out to a 7-0 lead after sophomore sensation Jade Rucker scored a couple of layups and a long-range three ball. 

Pontotoc answered with back-to-back three pointers from sophomore Channing Lane. 

The Lady Wave finished the first quarter strong to lead 16-11. 

Tupelo pulled away a couple of times in the second quarter behind good guard play from Nadia Norfleet (SO) and Audria Houston (SR). Mikayla Riley (SR) had key buckets as well. 

Pontotoc fought back on multiple occasions with a balanced attack. Junior guard, Alayna Ball, helped the Lady Warriors climb to within four late in the game. Tupelo was able to hit a final spurt and finished with a 37-25 win. 

These teams will meet at Tupelo on December 2 for a regular season matchup.

  • Tupelo is a deep, talented squad and the preseason #1 in 6A. 
  • Pontotoc also has a deep team and will be in the 4A conversation.
