William Woods Men’s Basketball Named Owl of the Week After SLIAC Title Win

The William Woods men’s basketball team has been named Owl of the Week for the period of Feb. 23 to March 1. The team achieved a historic feat by winning the SLIAC championship, a milestone many had doubted.

The Owls defeated No. 3 seed Lyon College 80-58 in the championship game. They also upset No. 1 seed Webster University on its home floor, winning 77-76 in a close contest.

With the victory, William Woods earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament, which begins Friday, March 6. This marks the first time the program has qualified for the national tournament, according to school officials.
