William Carey Women’s Tennis Wins SSAC Tournament Title
Mobile, Alabama — The William Carey University women’s tennis team won the SSAC Tournament title with a 4-1 victory over Loyola New Orleans on Saturday. The Lady Crusaders secured their spot in the final after a 5-0 win over Blue Mountain Christian in the semifinals, according to school officials.
Carey, the top seed and the reigning SSAC regular-season champion, improved its season record to 16-1 with Saturday’s victory. The team earned the doubles point with a 6-0 win from Victoria Vieten and Isabella Lechuga, and Li-Hsien Lin and Malak Abarkane added a 6-3 doubles win.
In singles play, Vieten defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-2; Jian Kang won 6-3, 6-1; Tiffany Chang posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory; and Li-Hsien Lin won 7-5, 6-2.
The Lady Crusaders, ranked fifth in the NAIA, now await their postseason assignment for the NAIA National Championship. The tournament will be held in Mobile from May 12 to 16. The team will learn its next opponent during the selection show on April 28.
