William Carey volleyball wins twice at Faulkner Invitational in Montgomery

Montgomery, Ala. — William Carey’s volleyball team started the Faulkner Invitational with a 3-1 win over Bryan College before sweeping Talladega College in straight sets Friday.

Against Bryan, Carey opened strong with the first four points but saw Bryan rally to take an 8-7 lead. After several lead changes, Bryan used a 6-0 run to lead 16-11. Carey chipped away and pulled within 24-23 late in the set, but Bryan secured the set with a kill.

The Lady Crusaders responded in the second set, opening with a 7-1 lead and extending it to 15-6. Bryan fought back, trimming the deficit to 21-19, but Carey closed the set on a 4-1 run to even the match at one set apiece.

The third set was tightly contested, with the teams tied at 19-19. Bryan led 24-22, but errors by the Lions allowed Carey to tie and then take the set, 25-24. Carey took a 2-1 lead in the match.

In the fourth set, Carey built an 8-4 lead and pulled away late for a 25-16 victory, sealing the match win. The Lady Crusaders then faced Talladega, with both teams battling early in the first set. Carey responded to Talladega’s 17-15 lead with a 4-0 run and eventually won 25-23 after Talladega threatened late.

The second set saw Carey dominate from the start, building a 14-5 lead en route to a 25-11 victory. The Lady Crusaders maintained control in the third set, opening with a 9-3 lead and finishing with a 25-17 win to complete the sweep.

William Carey is scheduled to face Reinhardt University at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by a match against Webber International at 1 p.m.
