West Florida Sweeps Doubleheader from Delta State Baseball

CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University’s baseball team lost both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against West Florida at Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field. The Argos won Game One 10-8 and Game Two 16-13.

In the first game, Delta State built a 4-1 lead early, with a two-run homer from Jacob Palazzo and an RBI hit-by-pitch from Tucker Jones. Palazzo finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Brady Hendrix added an RBI single in the eighth. However, five defensive errors allowed West Florida to rally, scoring nine runs over the final four innings. The Argos took the lead with a four-run seventh and added three in the ninth to secure the win.

West Florida’s Zack Stokes hit two home runs in the second game, which turned into a high-scoring affair with 29 total runs and 27 hits. The Argos scored 10 runs in the first two innings, including solo shots from Brobst and Stokes. Delta State responded with a late surge, scoring 10 runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Drew Prosek highlighted the rally with a three-run homer in the seventh, while Trey Otts added a three-run double in the sixth. Despite the comeback efforts, the early deficit proved too large to overcome.

Key performances for Delta State included Otts going 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored, and Prosek’s three-run homer. Greer contributed a two-run double and two RBIs, and Rock and Allen each had two hits and two runs scored.

The team is scheduled to return to action Tuesday, traveling to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, for a non-conference game against Henderson State at 5 p.m. Central Time.
