Trevor Hodges throws five no-hit innings to lead Jones College past MGCCC

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Trevor Hodges tossed five no-hit innings in relief of starting pitcher Brayson Graham, leading Jones College to a 7-3 win over Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday afternoon at Dub Herring Park. The Bobcats have won eight of their last 10 games against the Bulldogs.

Jones trailed 3-0 after two innings before Hodges entered and quickly quieted the Gulf Coast offense. He recorded two strikeouts and a groundout in the inning. In the bottom half, Jones scored a run on a Bulldog throwing error, then Dylan Champagne tied the game with a two-run double down the right field line.

With the game still tied entering the bottom of the sixth, Warren Hutchinson drove in pinch-runner Brady Smith with a sacrifice squeeze bunt to give Jones a 4-3 lead. The Bobcats added three more runs in the inning, highlighted by Chase Russell’s sixth home run of the year. Hodges closed out the game with a pop-out and two groundouts, allowing no hits and striking out seven to improve to 2-0 this season.

Later in the day, Jones faced Pearl River Community College and suffered a 19-3 loss after the Wildcats scored 10 runs in the fifth inning. The Bobcats, now 13-4, are scheduled to play a three-game series at Shelton State on Feb. 27-28.
