COLEMAN, Miss. — Todd Cooley has resigned as head football coach at Delta State University after 13 seasons to join the University of Mississippi staff. Cooley will serve as the Director of High School Relations and a special assistant to the head coach at Ole Miss, according to a Delta State news release.
During his tenure at Delta State, Cooley became the program’s winningest coach, earning his 77th career victory in a 41-9 win over North Greenville in 2025. His overall record at Delta State was 82-49, with four NCAA Division II playoff appearances and three Gulf South Conference titles.
Cooley was named Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year four times and coached more than 100 All-GSC selections. He also graduated nearly 250 football student-athletes during his time with the program, the release said.
“Todd’s hard work and commitment have elevated our program to a nationally respected and competitive level,” said Delta State Athletic Director Mike Kinnison. “We wish Todd and Lisa continued success in his new position.”
A nationwide search is underway to find Cooley’s successor, the university added.
