Texas Southern beats Jackson State 15-9 to win SWAC series

Jackson State collected 15 hits but couldn’t overcome Texas Southern’s offensive surge in a 15-9 loss Saturday at MacGregor Park. The Tigers now trail the series 2-0 with one game remaining.

Robert Tate Jr. led Jackson State with a 3-for-5 effort, including a home run and three RBIs. Five other players each had two hits, but it wasn’t enough against Texas Southern’s offense. Trae Burton took the loss, falling to 0-2.

Texas Southern jumped out early, taking a 2-1 lead after the first inning. The Tigers responded with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by Wilbert Perez’s homer. But the Tigers’ bullpen struggled, allowing multiple runs in the later innings.

Texas Southern’s offense was led by Nate Lopez, who tripled and scored twice. Byron Robinson also contributed with two RBIs. The teams will meet again Sunday at 1 p.m. in Houston to conclude the series.
