Southern Miss Volleyball to Compete at LSU Tiger Beach Challenge
The University of Southern Mississippi volleyball team will compete in the Tiger Beach Challenge hosted by LSU in Baton Rouge on Feb. 27-28, according to team officials. The Golden Eagles, with a 2-2 record, will play four dual matches over the two-day event.
Southern Miss opens the tournament against No. 12 LSU at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The Tigers, with a 5-0 record, are coming off a perfect start at the Green Wave Invitational in Elmwood, Louisiana. LSU defeated Tulane, South Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Spring Hill to begin the season undefeated. Head coach Russell Brock, in his 10th season, has a 233-91 record leading the Tigers since 2017.
The Golden Eagles will also face North Alabama at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The Lions are 3-2 after competing at the FSU Unconquered Invitational. North Alabama is coached by Kaleb VanDePerre, who holds a 62-45 record in his fourth season leading the team.
On Saturday, Southern Miss will play No. 18 Washington at 8 a.m. Washington is 3-1 after recent success at the Pepperdine Challenge. The Huskies are coached by Steve McFadden, who took over the program after three seasons as an assistant coach.
The Golden Eagles will conclude their weekend against Tulane at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Tulane, receiving votes in the AVCA Poll, is 2-3 after competing at the Green Wave Invitational in Elmwood, Louisiana. The Green Wave finished last season with a 29-11 record, their best in program history.
The tournament schedule includes matches on multiple courts throughout the two days, with several teams competing in duals across different time slots, according to the event’s full schedule.
