Southern Miss Men’s Tennis Hosts Jackson State in Weekend Doubleheader

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss men’s tennis returns to the court this weekend with a doubleheader that starts at home and continues on the road. The Golden Eagles host Jackson State on Friday before heading to Birmingham to face Samford on Sunday, according to university officials.

The team enters the weekend after opening the spring season with a 1-1 record in Lubbock. Southern Miss lost its opener 5-2 at Texas Tech but responded with a 4-3 victory over No. 5 Lubbock Christian. The Eagles rallied from a 1-0 deficit after doubles to secure the win with four singles victories, boosting their confidence for the upcoming matches.

Southern Miss will have a full roster available, including players such as Eric Perkowski, Saheb Sodhi, Olle Noltorp, Ritabrata Sarkar, Jay Temming, Kale Mize, Jose Murariu, Matei Varbanciu, and Rasmus Becker. Zubin Engineer leads the team, with Nicolas Simkin assisting on staff, the university said.

The match against Jackson State is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hattiesburg’s on-campus courts. The team then travels to Samford for a 1 p.m. match Sunday. The weekend offers an opportunity to defend home court and gain momentum for the rest of the season, officials added.
