Southern Miss Football Prepares for Final Week of Spring Practice After Second Scrimmage

The Southern Miss football team conducted its second spring scrimmage Saturday at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Temperatures rose into the mid-80s as the team participated in live-action drills during the two-hour session, according to school officials.

The practice began with individual position work before transitioning into the scrimmage. Quarterback John White and wide receiver Grant Page connected for an early touchdown in the red zone. The defense responded with two pass breakups from Jyaire Brown, the school’s release said.

Head coach Blake Anderson praised the effort, saying, “There was good energy again today, and I thought the guys played well for what we did today. We’ve got one more week left to get some work done before we end it with the event next Saturday.”

The team’s scoring included a pick-six by Jonah Martinez and a sack by Peyton Anderson. Page also caught a 35-yard pass from Landry Lyddy in the third-down segment. Rushing touchdowns from Jaylen Foster and Steven Robinson capped the scrimmage, with Foster’s run ending the session for Anderson’s squad.

Following practice, players and alumni gathered for lunch in the South End Zone. The event marked an alumni reunion, with former players from various eras visiting with current team members. Anderson emphasized the importance of the alumni connection, stating, “They built this place so we could be part of this story. We wanted to invite them back so they know this will always be home.”

Southern Miss is set for its final week of spring practice before hosting Showcase Saturday and the Future Golden Eagles Football Clinic next weekend. The free clinic is open to children 12 and under, with registration from 9 to 10 a.m. at Gate 9 on the northeast side of The Rock. At the conclusion, Anderson will address the attendees, and Geyser Falls will provide passes to participants.

The annual spring game kicks off at noon, following a 11 a.m. gate opening. Admission is free, and parking is available around the stadium. Fans are encouraged to attend and also to renew their season tickets by April 18 at SouthernMiss.com/Tickets. The baseball team will play Texas State at 3 p.m. that day, and a player autograph session will follow the spring game.
