SEC to Honor Memory of Alex Wilcox During Sixth Annual ‘All For Alex’ Weekend
The Southeastern Conference will hold its sixth annual ‘All For Alex’ weekend on April 11, with all 15 teams participating to honor the legacy of Alex Wilcox of Mississippi State. This year marks eight years since Wilcox’s death and the retirement of her No. 8 jersey, making the event especially meaningful.
Wilcox, a member of Mississippi State’s 2018 softball team, inspired many with her battle against ovarian cancer. She passed away in the summer of 2018. The Bulldogs will wear white uniforms with teal lettering, and all SEC teams will incorporate teal into their uniforms or accents on Saturday.
The weekend features seven conference games, including No. 21 LSU hosting No. 12 Arizona. Multiple non-conference teams nationwide are expected to participate, including South Alabama, where Wilcox’s sister, Kassidy, played, and UTSA, where her former head coach now leads the team.
The campaign was initiated by LSU coach Beth Torina and Mississippi State coach Samantha Ricketts. The idea was approved at the SEC coaches’ meetings in fall 2019 but was delayed due to the 2020 season cancellation. Mississippi State retired Wilcox’s jersey on Sept. 15, 2018, making her the first female student-athlete in school history to receive this honor.
All 13 SEC softball teams were awarded the league’s Sportsmanship Award in 2018 for their support of Wilcox. This year’s event includes a matchup between No. 13 Mississippi State and No. 8 Arkansas. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT at Nusz Park, with gates opening at 1 p.m. Additional host schools include Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Texas.
