Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Suffers First SEC Loss to No. 1 Georgia
The University of Mississippi women’s tennis team fell to No. 1 Georgia 4-0 Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, according to the school’s athletics department.
The Rebels, ranked 32nd nationally, could not overcome Georgia’s strong start. The Bulldogs secured the doubles point by winning two of three matches, including an 6-1 victory in the top doubles slot.
In singles play, Georgia continued its dominance, winning three courts to clinch the match. Ole Miss’s Alice Soulié and Riley Crowder each won their first sets but ultimately did not finish their matches as the Bulldogs sealed the win.
Soulié led No. 41 Deniz Dilek 6-1 in her first set, while Crowder was ahead 6-3 against No. 91 Patricija Paukstyte before the matches were halted. The Rebels will next face No. 17 South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina, on Saturday at 12 p.m., according to the schedule.
Georgia improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in SEC play, while Ole Miss stands at 6-2 and 1-1 in conference. The match was part of the Rebels’ road stretch in the conference season.
