Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 5 Auburn, 4-0
The University of Mississippi women’s tennis team was defeated by Auburn, 4-0, on Thursday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Mississippi. The Rebels, ranked No. 32 nationally, fell behind early after losing the doubles point.
Auburn, ranked No. 5 and with a 20-1 record overall and 3-0 in SEC play, maintained momentum through singles. The Tigers quickly secured three straight victories to clinch the match, according to the match report.
Ole Miss will return to the court Saturday at 1 p.m. to face No. 23 Florida. This will be the second meeting between the teams this season, with Ole Miss seeking its first win in the series.
In doubles, Auburn’s DJ Bennett and Ava Esposito defeated Ole Miss’s Emily Welker and Andrea Nova 6-3, while Merna Refaat and Angella Okutoyi earned a 6-4 win. The Rebels’ Beatrice Stagno and Brooklyn Olson lost 6-1 to Auburn’s Khairutdinova and Bowers.
In singles, Auburn’s Bennett, Khairutdinova, and Okutoyi won their matches, securing the victory. Ole Miss’s Welker, Nova, Olson, and Horikawa fought but couldn’t complete the comeback, with matches ending in Auburn’s favor.
The Rebels are scheduled to play against Florida on Saturday and will continue their SEC schedule throughout the season, aiming to improve their record.
