Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 23 Florida, 4-1

The University of Mississippi women’s tennis team was defeated by No. 23 Florida, 4-1, at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon, according to the school’s athletics department.

Ole Miss (6-5, 1-4 SEC) secured the doubles point with wins from Alice Soulie and Riley Crowder, who defeated Valery Gyina and Brooke Black, 6-4. Additionally, Andrea Nova and Emily Welker, ranked No. 85 in doubles, knocked off the No. 19 duo of Xinyi Nong and Nikola Daubnerova, 6-3.

Florida (8-3, 3-2 SEC) responded in singles by winning four consecutive matches to clinch the victory. The Gators took matches at the top, third, fourth, and fifth courts. India Houghton defeated Emily Welker in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to highlight the Gators’ effort.

The Rebels will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, on March 13 to face No. 19 Oklahoma. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m., according to Ole Miss athletics.

Results of Saturday’s matches included doubles wins from Nova/Welker and Soulie/Crowder, while Houghton, Gyina, Paskauskas, Black, Nong, and Daubnerova earned singles victories for Florida. The order of finish was doubles match 2, then 1; singles matches 1, 6, 4, and 3.
