Ole Miss Women’s Basketball Set to Face Georgia in Athens on Sunday
Oxford, Miss. — The Ole Miss women’s basketball team travels to Athens for its second matchup against Georgia this season. The game is scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. CT at Stegeman Coliseum and will be broadcast on SEC Network, according to university sources.
The Rebels, ranked No. 16 nationally, enter the game with a 16-3 overall record and a 3-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play. Head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin is in her eighth season at Ole Miss. Georgia, with a 15-3 record and a 1-3 SEC record, is led by head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, now in her fourth season with the Lady Bulldogs.
This will be the 57th meeting between the two teams. Georgia holds a 38-18 series lead, but Ole Miss has won the past five meetings, including a 79-62 victory in Oxford earlier this season. The Rebels’ five-game winning streak is the longest in series history, with three of those wins occurring in Athens, where Georgia maintains a 20-4 advantage.
Ole Miss’s last victory in Athens was a 66-65 nail-biter on Jan. 24, 2010, when all five starters scored double figures. The team has also secured wins by double digits in recent years, including a 79-62 victory earlier this season, the most points scored against Georgia since 1996.
Georgia’s squad features a talented backcourt duo of Dani Carnegie and Trinity Turner. Carnegie averages 17.5 points per game and shoots 41.8% from three, while Turner averages 12.2 points and 4.6 assists per game. The Lady Bulldogs are known for their perimeter shooting, with a team three-point percentage of 34.8%.
Ole Miss most recently defeated Mississippi State 93-68 on Sunday, marking their first 20-point win over the Bulldogs since 1997. Key contributors included Cotie McMahon, who scored 21 points, and Sira Thienou with 20 points. The Rebels look to continue their winning streak and improve their series record against Georgia.
