Ole Miss Women’s Basketball Narrowly Falls to Alabama 64-63
Tuscaloosa, Alabama — Ole Miss women’s basketball suffered a 64-63 loss to Alabama on Thursday evening at Coleman Coliseum. The Rebels, ranked 13th/14th nationally, moved to 19-5 overall and 6-3 in SEC play.
Christeen Iwuala posted her 10th double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, becoming the first Rebel since Madison Scott to reach double digits in double-doubles in a single season. Latasha Lattimore contributed 10 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and first in SEC games.
Cotie McMahon scored 22 points, tying her career high in single-season 20-plus point games with her 14th of the year. She also added six rebounds and five assists. Despite a slow start offensively, Ole Miss kept pace early, with Debreasha Powe hitting two three-pointers and McMahon adding six points in the first half.
The game was tightly contested throughout. Ole Miss led 28-25 at halftime, thanks to back-to-back layups from Lattimore and McMahon. The third quarter saw multiple lead changes, with Alabama closing the gap through free throws and a three-pointer. Heading into the final 10 minutes, Alabama led 48-47.
In the fourth quarter, Ole Miss surged early, with Iwuala and Lattimore scoring and McMahon converting an and-one. However, Alabama responded with free throws, ultimately securing the narrow victory. The Rebels will face Arkansas on Feb. 12 in Oxford after a bye week, with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. on SEC Network.
The game featured notable performances, including Iwuala’s 11 points and 15 rebounds, Lattimore’s 10 points and 13 rebounds, and McMahon’s 22 points. Ole Miss will look to bounce back in their next matchup against Arkansas.
