Ole Miss Women’s Basketball Falls to Georgia in Athens
ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 16 Ole Miss women’s basketball team suffered its second SEC loss of the season, falling to Georgia 82-59 Sunday at Stegeman Coliseum.
Christeen Iwuala led the Rebels (16-4, 3-2 SEC) with 13 points and 10 rebounds, her seventh career double-double. Dani Carnegie scored a career-high 32 points with 11 rebounds for Georgia (16-3, 2-3 SEC). Trinity Turner also posted a double-double, with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Rebels struggled offensively in the first quarter, making just three of 13 shots before the media timeout. Georgia capitalized with three three-pointers, building a nine-point lead. The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead to 13 points before Sira Thienou hit a three, reducing the deficit to 10 at the end of the quarter.
Ole Miss opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run, highlighted by Debreasha Powe’s 200th career three-pointer. However, Georgia responded with a 7-0 run of its own and pulled ahead by as many as 18 points. The Bulldogs maintained their advantage throughout the second half, leading by as much as 28 points in the fourth quarter.
The game ended with Georgia on top, 82-59. Ole Miss will next face Missouri in Columbia on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT, with the game streamed on SECN+.
