Ole Miss Walks Off Past Mississippi State in Softball Series

Oxford, Miss. — Mississippi State’s softball team fell 3-2 to Ole Miss on Friday night in the second game of their series at Ole Miss. Kennedy Bunker hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, sealing the Rebels’ victory, according to the game summary.

The Bulldogs (37-16, 9-14 SEC) scored first with a home run by Xiane Romero in the seventh inning but couldn’t hold the lead. Bunker also started the scoring with a solo shot in the bottom of the first. The Rebels (31-23, 5-18 SEC) regained the lead with a double in the sixth inning before Romero tied the game with her home run in the seventh.

Mississippi State coach Samantha Ricketts attributed the loss to missed opportunities early in the game. “I think just the too many opportunities early on wasted,” she said. “Not taking advantage of the pitchers early in the game is where we lost that game.”

Both teams finished with five hits. Romero, Des Rivera, Nadia Barbary, Paige Ernstes, and Kiarra Sells contributed offensively for the Bulldogs. Defensive highlights included the Bulldogs’ seventh consecutive errorless game, their longest streak this season.

The series concludes Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, with the game televised on SEC Network. For more updates, fans can follow Mississippi State softball on social media platforms.
