Ole Miss Track & Field Sets Record, Wins 11 Events at Ole Miss Classic

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss track and field secured 11 event wins and set a school record in the men’s 4×100-meter relay during the Ole Miss Classic at Prefontaine Stadium on Saturday, according to the university.

The Rebel men’s 4×100-meter relay team of Dekell Minor, Jordan Urrutia, Wesley Todd, and Tarique Wright opened the meet with a time of 38.98 seconds, becoming the first sub-39 relay in program history and breaking their previous all-time best set last May at the NCAA East Regional.

Ole Miss also highlighted a strong performance in the men’s 4×400-meter relay, with Carson Turner, Cade Flatt, Wesley Todd, and Jordan Urrutia finishing in 3:06.13. That time was the fastest since 1999 and ranks as the seventh-best in school history, aided by a 46.1-second third leg by Flatt and a 45.8 anchor by Urrutia.

Freshman Ashton Hearn made an immediate impact in the discus, winning with a throw of 58.12 meters (190-8), which ranks second in school history. Hearn, who finished fourth nationally in junior discus in high school, also placed second in the shot put at 17.50 meters (57-5), behind NCAA champion Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan, who threw 20.42 meters (67-0).

Other notable performances included Kyle Johnson’s wind-legal triple jump of 15.75 meters (51-8.25), tying his outdoor PR and ranking 13th in school history, and Logan Kelley’s pole vault clearance of 5.26 meters (17-3). In the women’s events, Indya Dotson’s triple jump of 12.07 meters (39-7.25) and her discus throw of 49.54 meters (162-6) both marked career-best efforts, with the discus moving her into eighth in school history.

Ole Miss’s next competition will be the Stanford Invitational and LSU’s Battle on the Bayou on April 3-4, after a week off from competition.

During the second day of the meet, athletes also posted several personal bests and collegiate debuts, including Zion Lockette’s 11.58-second 100-meter dash and Joshua Knox’s 10.28-second sprint, which ranks eighth in school history outdoors.

Ole Miss will continue its season with upcoming meets at Stanford and LSU, aiming to build on its recent success and record-breaking performances, according to the university.
