Ole Miss Track & Field Dominates Day Two at SEC Indoor Championships
Bryan-College Station, Texas — Ole Miss senior Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan captured his third consecutive SEC indoor weight throw title Friday, helping the Rebels make a strong showing on the second day of the conference championships.
Robinson-O’Hagan, a three-time NCAA champion and 12-time All-American, secured his 10th career SEC gold medal with a toss of 23.25 meters (76 feet, 3.50 inches) in the second round. His victory marked his 10th SEC crown and placed him alongside Georgia’s Andras Haklits and LSU’s Walter Henning as the only athletes to three-peat in the event. Robinson-O’Hagan’s career total of SEC points now stands at 114 across indoor and outdoor seasons.
Senior Bryson Smith added a second medal for Ole Miss with a third-place finish, recording a personal best of 22.29 meters (73-01.75). His throw ranks second in Ole Miss history and made him the third Rebel to break 73 feet in the weight throw. The Rebels also earned 16 points from the women’s weight throw, with juniors Akaoma Odeluga and Skylar Soli finishing second and fourth, respectively. Odeluga’s final throw of 22.72 meters (74-06.50) clinched the silver medal, while Soli’s best of 21.98 meters (72-01.50) earned bronze.
On the track, Ole Miss saw a standout performance from senior Alicia Burnett, who ran a career-best 7.14 seconds in the women’s 60-meter dash preliminaries. The time ranks third in NCAA this season, second in the U.S., and 17th worldwide. Burnett’s mark surpasses her previous best and places her among the top sprinters nationally and globally. Transfer Royanah Farmer also competed, finishing 15th with a PR of 7.28 seconds.
Ole Miss’s men’s distance runners advanced to finals, with Chase Rose and Max Armstrong winning their heats in the 800 meters and Evan Thornton-Sherman qualifying in the mile. Freshman John Shoemaker also advanced after a strong finish in the mile heat. Other notable performances included Dekell Minor and Tarique Wright in the 60-meter dash and Jo-Lauren Keane in the women’s 800 meters. Freshman William Numnum finished ninth in the heptathlon despite dealing with an injury, accumulating 4,803 points and setting personal bests in the shot put and pole vault.
After five events, Ole Miss’s men’s team is in second place with 32 points, trailing Texas A&M. The women’s team stands seventh with 20.5 points. Action continues Saturday with finals in several events, including Ole Miss’s Arvesta Troupe in the men’s high jump. The meet continues to showcase the Rebels’ strong performances in this indoor season.
