Ole Miss Softball splits doubleheader at Green & Gold Classic, loses opener to Missouri State, dominates Mercer

The University of Mississippi softball team, ranked No. 25 nationally, split its final day at the Green & Gold Classic in Birmingham, Alabama. The Rebels lost their morning game to Missouri State but responded with a dominant win over Mercer in the afternoon.

In the opener, Ole Miss fell 3-2 to Missouri State. The Rebels scored first on a double by Mackenzie Pickens and an RBI single from Madi George. Emilee Boyer started on the mound and struck out four in her first eight outs. Missouri State took the lead with a three-run homer in the third inning. Ole Miss rallied in the fifth, with Kennedy Bunker hitting a solo shot, but the Rebels couldn’t complete the comeback.

Later in the day, Ole Miss crushed Mercer 16-1 in five innings. The Rebels opened the scoring with an RBI single by Pickens and Madi George. Taylor Grisham hit a three-run homer in the second inning, and Pickens added another RBI single. The offense continued to pour in, with Grace Thompson and Grisham contributing with hits. Freshman pitcher Hope Jenkins closed out the game for Ole Miss. Pickens finished with four hits and six RBIs, tying the program’s single-game record.

Ole Miss now prepares for a home series against Central Arkansas on Wednesday. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus. Fans are encouraged to join Rebel Rewards, the team’s loyalty program, through the Ole Miss sports app.

The Rebels hold an 11-5 overall record heading into upcoming SEC play, with no conference wins yet recorded. The team is coached by Jamie Trachsel.
