Ole Miss Softball Hosts No. 4 Oklahoma for First Time in Program History
The Ole Miss softball team will host No. 4 Oklahoma this weekend at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi. This marks the program’s first-ever meeting with the Sooners and the first time the two teams have faced off since Oklahoma joined the Southeastern Conference.
The series begins Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, with the first game streamed on SEC Network Plus. The second and third contests are scheduled for Sunday and Monday at 6 p.m. CT, both televised on the SEC Network.
Ole Miss enters the series with a 20-11 record and is winless in SEC play at 0-6. Oklahoma holds a 29-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark in conference. The Sooners are ranked No. 4 nationally. The teams previously met in the 2016 NCAA Norman Regional.
Freshman Madi George has been a standout for Ole Miss, batting .417 with nine home runs and 19 walks through 31 games. Sophomore Persy Llamas, also performing well, is hitting .392 with five home runs and 27 RBIs. The Rebels have hit 39 home runs this season, averaging 1.26 per game.
Ole Miss has shown resilience defensively, holding a 13-2 record when not making an error. The team continues to face a challenging schedule, ranked third in difficulty nationally, with six remaining non-conference midweek games and multiple top-10 opponents on the horizon. The Rebels have already played 11 away games outside Oxford, posting an 11-5 record in those contests.
National recognition has followed Ole Miss players, with three Rebels included in Softball America’s March Position Power Rankings. Madi George is ranked as the No. 11 utility player, Llamas as the No. 12 first baseman, and Mackenzie Pickens as the No. 14 second baseman nationally.
