Ole Miss Softball Beats No. 4 Tennessee 2-1 in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Emilee Boyer threw a complete game and Kennedy Bunker hit a solo home run as Ole Miss defeated No. 4 Tennessee 2-1 Friday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The Rebels (22-14, 1-9 SEC) took an early lead when Bunker led off the game with a home run, her 100th career RBI. It was the first time in two years Ole Miss led off a game with a home run.

Boyer limited Tennessee’s offense to three hits and struck out three batters. She worked around a first-inning walk and a bases-loaded situation in the third, where the Lady Vols tied the game with a bases-loaded walk. Boyer struck out the final batter to keep the game tied.

In the sixth inning, Persy Llamas singled and was pinch-run for by Izzy Rettiger. After a wild pitch, Rettiger advanced to third and scored on another Tennessee error, giving Ole Miss a 2-1 lead. Boyer shut down Tennessee in the seventh to secure the victory, the Rebels’ first win in Knoxville since 2008.

The series continues Saturday with a game scheduled for 1 p.m. CT, streamed via SEC Network Plus. Ole Miss’s next home game is against Texas A&M on April 10.
