Ole Miss Men’s Golf Duo to Compete at Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate
STATESBORO, Ga. — Ole Miss men’s golf players Jacob Blanton and Collins Trolio are competing at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate, hosted by Georgia Southern University, on Feb. 7-8.
The 54-hole tournament begins with 36 holes on Saturday and concludes with 18 holes on Sunday at University Park Golf Course. This marks the second collegiate start for Blanton, a redshirt sophomore from West Point, Mississippi, who debuted last fall at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational. It is Trolio’s third event of the season, and he aims to build on his career-best finish of fourth last year at this event, where he also tied his low score of 67.
The tournament was renamed in 2021 in honor of Thomas Sharkey, a former Georgia Southern golfer who played from 2009 to 2011 and was tragically killed in a house fire in Scotland in 2011. The university memorializes him with a stone at its practice facility and by keeping his locker dedicated to his memory.
Georgia Southern’s course at University Park opened in October 2013. It spans 6,900 yards from the championship tees and features a clubhouse and a mix of Tifway 419 and TifEagle grasses on the fairways and greens.
Ole Miss will look to improve its standing in the event, which is a key part of the team’s spring schedule. Fans can follow live scoring and updates on Ole Miss’s social media channels, including X (formerly Twitter) at @OleMissMGolf and on Instagram, Facebook, and the official athletics website.
