Ole Miss Baseball to Open SEC Play Against No. 2 Texas in Austin
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss Baseball will make its first SEC road trip since 1912 this weekend, traveling to Austin to face No. 2 Texas in a three-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m., with Saturday’s game set for 2:30 p.m. and Sunday’s at 1 p.m., according to university sources.
The Rebels, holding a 15-3 record, are coming off a narrow loss to No. 7 Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. Ole Miss is among Division I teams ranked in the top 10 nationally in several offensive and pitching categories, including team ERA (2.68) and home runs (36), according to NCAA statistics.
Ole Miss boasts strong individual performances. Cade Townsend has a 0.48 ERA with 32 strikeouts over four starts, riding a 17-inning scoreless streak. Judd Utermark hit .412 last week with four home runs and 10 RBIs, bringing his season total to 10 homers, ranking second in the SEC. Dom Decker leads the SEC in walks, with 23 on the season, and has reached base in all 18 games.
Texas enters the series undefeated at 16-0, under second-year head coach Jim Schlossnagle. The Longhorns have scored 162 runs in 16 games, led by key players such as Aiden Robbins, who is batting .406 with 26 hits and six home runs. Texas’s pitching staff is anchored by Ruger Riojas, who has four wins and a 1.23 ERA, and the team boasts a .989 fielding percentage, fourth-best nationally.
