NWCC Women’s Basketball Falls to Meridian 66-36 in Conference Game
The Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers women’s basketball team lost 66-36 to the Meridian Community College Eagles on Monday night. The game was their first road test since recovering from an ice storm and marked the start of a busy stretch of seven games in 15 days, according to school officials.
From the tip-off, the Rangers struggled offensively. Leading scorer Dekyra Mitchell opened the game with a three-pointer but finished just 1-for-15 from the field and 1-for-12 from three-point range. The team overall shot 20 percent from the floor, making 12 of 60 attempts. They also converted only two of 25 three-point attempts.
The Eagles took control early, going on a 19-4 run after Northwest’s first basket. The Rangers kept the game within 15 points at halftime but saw their momentum fade in the second half. They scored only 36 points in the game, their season low, with just 10 in the third quarter. Despite the offensive struggles, Alorian Story posted her 11th consecutive double-double and 16th this season, contributing 10 points and 11 rebounds. She is on pace to break the school record for rebounds per game, averaging 13.95, and is 105 rebounds shy of the all-time team record held by Chatica Hathaway.
The Rangers (13-7, 4-2) will host Jones College (17-5, 6-3) at Howard Coliseum on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The game can be streamed starting at 5:20 p.m. on Ranger TV. Fans can follow updates on the team through the school’s official social media accounts or visit nwccrangers.com for more information.
