Northwest Mississippi’s Addison Forbes Signs First-Ever Women’s Golf Scholarship to Millsaps College
Senatobia, Miss. — Addison Forbes has become the first player in Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s golf history to sign with a four-year program. The Denham Springs, Louisiana, native will attend Millsaps College, an NCAA Division III school in Jackson.
Head Coach Adam Payne, in his first year leading the Rangers, called Forbes’ signing a historic milestone. “It’s always important to see kids who come here for two years have the opportunity to play somewhere else,” Payne said. “She was patient after going through a lot of turmoil when she came here and several coaches, but she stuck with it and has worked hard and been a great leader.”
Forbes cited the environment at Millsaps as a key factor in her decision. “It was the education and the opportunity to continue to play,” she said. “I’m super excited to continue playing with a group of girls that I haven’t played with before, and we are going to be traveling a lot to different states so that’s exciting.”
During her time at Northwest, Forbes qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament as a freshman, finishing 71st overall. She is expected to bring veteran leadership to Millsaps, where she will join the Majors’ golf team. Despite her commitment to Millsaps, Forbes still has a full spring season with the Rangers, including a season-opening tournament in Mobile, Alabama, on Feb. 23 and 24.
She also has her sights set on a potential trip to nationals from May 10-15 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Forbes said she values her experiences at Northwest and the friendships she has built. “I love Northwest. I wish I could stay here for four years. I appreciate everything Coach Payne has done for us and he’s helped me improve a lot. I love the girls so much, and the guys too. I’ve built some really good friendships, and I hope I keep them forever because they’ve helped me become a better person as well,” she said.
