Northwest Baseball Sweeps East Mississippi to Improve to 6-2 in Conference Play
Senatobia, Miss. — Northwest Mississippi Community College’s baseball team won both games of a doubleheader Wednesday against East Mississippi Community College, improving to 6-2 in conference play and 19-10 overall. The Rangers won game one 16-6 via the 10-run rule and took game two 6-4, extending their winning streak to four games, their longest of the season, according to school officials.
In the first game, Northwest built a 5-4 lead after three innings and pulled away with a six-run fifth inning. The Rangers scored four more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, ending the game early with a walk-off wild pitch. East Mississippi scored two runs in the seventh but could not overcome the deficit. Three Rangers had three RBIs each: South McCoy, John Whit Snopek, and Lake Reed. McCoy hit a home run and triple, Snopek went 3-4, and Reed went 3-3 with three runs scored. Tyler Sullivan earned his second win of the season in relief, pitching four innings with two runs allowed and four strikeouts.
In the second game, East Mississippi took an early 4-0 lead in the second inning. Northwest responded with two runs in the third, a solo home run from McCoy in the fourth, and a two-run shot by Mason McMillin in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. An insurance run scored in the sixth on an RBI single from Reed. Caleb Doty earned the win after five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. McCoy secured his fourth save with a scoreless seventh inning. The Rangers will face No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College this weekend at Jim Miles Field, with games scheduled for 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, according to school officials.
