Northwest Baseball Earns Five All-MACC Honors

Senatobia, Miss. — The Mississippi Association of Community College Conference announced its all-conference baseball teams Wednesday, recognizing five Northwest Mississippi Community College players. The Rangers finished the season in the top six of the standings.

Freshman South McCoy led the team with a trio of honors. He was named to the First Team All-MACCC as a two-way player and to the Second Team as a designated hitter. McCoy led the team with a .377 batting average, 16 home runs, and 57 RBIs. He also stole 12 of 12 bases, scored 52 runs, and posted a .511 on-base percentage. On the mound, McCoy appeared as the closer, posting a 2.23 ERA with seven saves and a 6-2 record. He struck out 46 in 36.1 innings and held opponents to a .216 batting average, according to the school.

Head Coach Mark Carson praised McCoy, calling him an “absolute difference maker” and one of the hardest workers he has coached, noting his versatility and clutch performances.

Another first-team selection was sophomore Mason McMillin, who posted a .302 batting average, 13 home runs, 48 RBIs, and led the team with 54 runs scored. He also stole nine bases in 11 attempts and maintained a .979 fielding percentage, with 13 assists and two double plays.

Hallas Lawson was named to the second team as a catcher. Despite battling injuries, he hit .370 with a .474 on-base percentage, scored 42 runs, and drove in 21 RBIs. He successfully stole 15 of 15 bases and committed only six errors in 230 chances, according to the school.

The Rangers also earned honorable mentions. Sophomore Mason Gillentine, an outfielder, finished with a .301 batting average, a .407 on-base percentage, and five home runs. He scored 40 runs, drove in 30 RBIs, and stole 14 of 17 bases despite battling injuries.

Freshman Preston Johnson was recognized as an honorable mention. He hit .427, with four home runs, 28 runs scored, and 22 RBIs. Johnson also contributed as a reliable second baseman with a .972 fielding percentage and helped turn seven double plays. On the mound, he made 15 appearances with a 3.90 ERA and a 5-2 record.
