No. 9 Jones Tennis Dominates No. 16 Hinds 9-0
RAYMOND, Miss. — Ninth-ranked Jones College defeated No. 16 Hinds 9-0 Thursday at the Cleon McKnight Tennis Center. The Bobcats improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
Jones secured the victory with dominant performances across doubles and singles matches. Heidi Clayton of New Albany and Theresa Emelio of Australia won No. 1 doubles over Rodia Noudogbessi and Daniela Lopez, 8-3. Camila Piquín and Maria Martinez, both from Argentina, defeated Macie Curtis and Jaqueline Vargas, 8-5, in No. 2 doubles. Katlin Porcello of Oak Grove and Josie Tullos of Newton County topped Taryn Green and Landry Parks, 8-1, in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Piquín outlasted Noudogbessi, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, at No. 1. Clayton defeated Lopez, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, at No. 2. Martinez beat Vargas, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3, while Emelio won over Curtis, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4. Porcello downed T’errial Owens, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5, and Caroline Kilpatrick of Brookhaven topped Green, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6. An additional match saw Emily Rogers of West Jones beat Parks, 8-2.
Jones is scheduled to host No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Bobcats continue their season with a strong record and aim to maintain their winning streak.
