No. 4 Oklahoma beats Ole Miss 10-0 in six innings
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss softball team lost to No. 4 Oklahoma 10-0 in six innings Saturday at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The Rebels, now 20-12 overall and 0-7 in Southeastern Conference play, kept the game close through the first four innings before the Sooners pulled away late.
Kyra Aycock pitched for Ole Miss and kept Oklahoma’s top-ranked offense in check early on. She escaped a first-inning jam and allowed only one run on a collision at second base during a double play attempt in the second inning. Aycock also threw a scoreless third inning and struck out two batters, but Oklahoma scored a solo home run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
The Sooners’ offense surged in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to push the lead to 5-0. Ole Miss attempted a rally in the bottom half, with Cassie Reasner singling and Ryan Starr being hit by a pitch to put runners in scoring position. However, Oklahoma stranded both runners. The visitors added five more runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 10-0, ending the game early on the mercy rule.
Persy Llamas recorded her second hit of the day in the bottom of the sixth, but Ole Miss could not score. The Rebels will look to rebound in the second game of the series on Sunday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
