No. 21 Mississippi College Baseball Beats William Carey 8-6
CLINTON, Miss. — No. 21 Mississippi College baseball defeated William Carey 8-6 Tuesday at Frierson Field. The Choctaws improved to 4-4 with the win, which snapped a three-game losing streak and marked their fifth consecutive victory over the Crusaders, according to team sources.
Mississippi College capitalized on nine walks and three hit batters to generate offense, scoring six runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The eight runs marked a season high for the team.
Ty Murphy and Will Langston led the offense with multiple hits. Murphy drove in three runs, a season best, while Jake LaRocca added two RBIs as the team totaled a season-high seven RBIs overall.
The Crusaders took a three-run lead in the sixth inning, but MC responded with four runs in the bottom half. LaRocca’s double and Kelby Jordan’s single cut the deficit, and Murphy’s groundout tied the game at 5-5. Cade Gadman’s RBI single then put the Blue and Gold ahead 6-5.
William Carey tied the game again in the seventh, but Mississippi College regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Langston scored on Murphy’s single, and JT Thigpen scored on a throwing error by the Crusaders’ third baseman, giving MC a two-run cushion.
Connor Pittman earned his first victory of the season, pitching one inning in relief and allowing one run. Dylan Cope recorded his first save, pitching the final two frames and striking out two batters.
The team returns to action Friday, Feb. 13, opening Gulf South Conference play against West Alabama at 5 p.m. on the road, according to team officials.
