No. 17 Ole Miss Women’s Golf splits matches at Old Barnwell Derby

The Ole Miss women’s golf team, ranked No. 17, split its two matches Sunday at the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play in Aiken, South Carolina. The Rebels lost 3-2 to No. 16 Mississippi State in the quarterfinals but rebounded with a 3-2 win over Alabama in the consolation round, according to the university.

Kajsalotta Svarvar and Mary Miller led the Rebels on Sunday, each winning both of their matches. Svarvar defeated Ines Belchior of Mississippi State 6&4 in the morning and beat Alabama’s Natachanok Tunwannarux 6&5 later. She recorded 10 birdies across 27 holes.

Miller topped Sam Whateley 1 up in her first match and defeated Grace Crawford 5&4 in the afternoon. Miller also made 10 birdies, including five over nine holes during her second match.

Larissa Carrillo contributed to the victory over Alabama, defeating Harriet Lockley 3&2 in the afternoon. The Saltillo, Mexico native held her nerve through a back-and-forth match and sealed the win with two pars as Lockley made bogeys on the final holes.
