No. 15 Delta State Hosts No. 22 West Florida in GSC Baseball Series

The Delta State University Statesmen baseball team will host the West Florida Argonauts this weekend at Ferriss Field in Cleveland, Mississippi. The series is scheduled for three games, starting Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The matchup features the top two teams in the Gulf South Conference, with Delta State holding a 10-2 record overall and 6-0 in conference play. West Florida also sits at 10-2 overall, with a 5-1 conference mark.

Delta State enters the series on an eight-game winning streak, including two conference sweeps. West Florida has won five straight games and secured two conference series wins. The series is considered pivotal for conference standings, with both teams vying for the top spot.

Radio coverage will be provided by the Statesmen Sports Network on Saturday afternoon, with Michael Gross calling the game. Nathan Duff will handle play-by-play duties on FloCollege for Friday night’s game.

Leading the Statesmen at the plate is designated hitter Levi Lang, who boasts a .426 batting average, 12 RBIs, and two doubles. Tucker Jones also has 12 RBIs. Jacob Hill, Cade Greer, and others have stolen eight or more bases this season. On the mound, Adrian Byrd continues to excel after earning Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. The senior has pitched 20 innings with a 1.80 ERA and 26 strikeouts.

For West Florida, Zack Stokes has been the top hitter, batting .366 with two doubles, three home runs, and 12 RBIs. Gustavo Mendez and William Lybrook are both hitting above .380 and have each hit one home run. On the mound, Colton Dorsey has been effective with a 0.64 ERA over 14 innings, striking out 18 batters.
