New Orleans Dominates Mississippi Valley State 14-0 in Baseball Game
The Mississippi Valley State University baseball team was shut out by the New Orleans Privateers in a game played Tuesday at Maestri Field. The game turned in the sixth inning, when the Privateers scored 13 runs to break open a 1-0 lead.
New Orleans improved its record to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in Southland Conference play, while Mississippi Valley State fell to 3-11. The Privateers lead the all-time series 9-0 and have won nine consecutive meetings.
Luke Richard pitched two perfect innings in relief, striking out two batters and walking one, to help secure the shutout. For Mississippi Valley State, Kendall Brookins led the offense with two hits. Eric Williams, Jaxon Haynes, and Tom Early also contributed offensively, with Haynes doubling and Early singling. The team drew walks from Tanner Aoki, Israel Ramos, and Stephen Landaz, while Aiden Meyer, Noah Bufford, and Landaz were hit by pitches.
Mississippi Valley State is scheduled to face New Orleans again at 2 p.m. Wednesday for a rematch. The game will be a late addition to the schedule.
