Mo Williams resigns as Jackson State men’s basketball coach to join Kentucky staff

Jackson State head men’s basketball coach Mo Williams announced Tuesday he is resigning to accept a coaching position at Kentucky. Williams expressed gratitude for his time at Jackson State and thanked athletic director Ashley Robinson and the university community.

Williams led the Tigers to the 2025 SWAC championship game and finished with a 14-4 conference record that season. The team also reached the quarterfinals last year, finishing with a 10-8 record in conference play. During his four years, Jackson State played some of the nation’s toughest schedules and compiled a 47-25 record in conference games.

Williams coached SWAC Player of the Year Daeshun Ruffin, who finished fourth nationally in scoring. Jackson State Vice President and Athletic Director Ashley Robinson praised Williams’ leadership and character, wishing him success at Kentucky.

Assistant coach Trey Johnson has been appointed interim head coach as the program transitions. Jackson State supporters can follow the team on social media at @GoJSUTigers on Instagram and Twitter or on Facebook at Jackson State Tigers.
