Mississippi Valley State Track & Field Debuts Women’s Team at KMS Invitational
The Mississippi Valley State University women’s track and field team made its season debut Saturday at the KMS Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. The event was held at the Birmingham CrossPlex and featured both men’s and women’s competitions, though no team scores were recorded.
Nyla Snead and Aniyah Thomas led the women’s team with strong performances. Snead set a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 9.62 seconds. Thomas also finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 12.40 meters and placed sixth in the shot put with a 9.85-meter toss. Jasmine Mackey added to the team’s success with a third-place finish in the 800 meters in 2:29.68 and sixth in the mile with a time of 6:01.52. Cayden Fluellen finished seventh in the 60-meter dash in 8.13 seconds, while Tori Carter and Alaya Rhodes placed eighth in their respective events—the 400 meters and high jump.
On the men’s side, the Delta Devils posted notable performances in field events. Allen Jenkins and Henry Espy finished third and fifth in the long jump with distances of 6.61 meters and 6.44 meters, respectively. Espy also cleared 1.85 meters in the high jump, finishing sixth. Kristian Miller threw the shot put 12.10 meters, and Jadarius Townes recorded an 11.71-meter throw in the weight throw, both placing seventh. Jeremiah Adderley ran the 60 meters in 7.00 seconds to finish sixth, and Malachi Finley completed the 400 meters in 51.12 seconds, finishing fifth.
The team will have a two-week break before returning to Birmingham for the UAB-hosted Green & Gold Invitational on February 6 and the UAB Invitational on February 7.
