Mississippi Valley State Softball Drops Two to Alabama A&M in Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Mississippi Valley State University’s softball team was unable to capitalize on a close loss Friday, falling to Alabama A&M in both games of a doubleheader. The Bulldogs won 5-3 in the first game and 10-0 in five innings in the second, according to game scores.
The Diamond Devils dropped to 1-31 overall and 0-17 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Alabama A&M improved to 18-24 overall and 5-11 in SWAC standings. The series took place at Bulldog Softball Field in Huntsville, with Alabama A&M holding a 67-51 lead in the all-time series, which the Bulldogs now lead with a 13-game winning streak.
In the first game, Hailey Akers led Mississippi Valley State with a 2-for-4 effort, scoring a run and driving in one RBI. Devyn Dotson also contributed an RBI, attempting to spark a rally in the seventh inning. Michelle Diaz reached twice with a hit and a walk, touching home once. Madison Wesley also reached safely multiple times, with a single and a walk. Ashtyn Clark hit the only extra-base hit for the Devils, a double, while Sheridan Kynard stole her 13th base in 14 attempts.
In the second game, Kynard was the standout, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Clark contributed a pinch-hit single and also pitched two innings with two strikeouts. Taniya Partee recorded the team’s fifth and final hit, while Dotson drew the only walk for Mississippi Valley State. The team will host Florida A&M for its final homestand of 2026, beginning with a single game at 3 p.m. Friday.
