Mississippi Valley State Baseball Falls to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in SWAC Opener

Arkansas-Pine Bluff defeated Mississippi Valley State 13-1 in seven innings Sunday at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The Golden Lions improved to 8-12 overall and 3-0 in SWAC play, while the Diamond Devils fell to 4-14 and remain winless in conference at 0-3.

Mississippi Valley State’s lone run came on an RBI triple from Gabe Huelsing in his only official at-bat, which drove in Cody Leming. Huelsing also reached on a hit-by-pitch. Ty Burns added a single, and Eric Williams and Jaxon Haynes both reached safely via walks or hit-by-pitch, according to the team.

Jace Jones was the only pitcher to record at least three outs without allowing an earned run. The series between the teams is now tied 6-6-1 since 2012, with Arkansas-Pine Bluff winning the last three meetings.

Mississippi Valley State will next travel to Houston for a weekend series against Texas Southern, with Friday’s game scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Fans can follow the team on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram at @ValleyStateBSB, and on Facebook at Valley State Athletics.
