Mississippi Valley Softball Suffers Opening Loss to Saint Louis

Martin, Tenn. — The Mississippi Valley State University softball team dropped its season opener to Saint Louis by a final score of 18-0 in five innings during the first game of the Skyhawk Invitational, according to the box score.

The game was played at Bettye Giles Field. Saint Louis, which now leads the series 6-1, improved to 3-4 overall. Mississippi Valley State, which remains winless at 0-1, is part of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, while Saint Louis competes in the Atlantic 10.

The Billikens scored 18 runs and limited the Devilettes to no runs. Top performers for Mississippi Valley included Taniya Partee, Hailey Akers, and Jamiyah Gary, all going 1-for-2 with singles. Sheridan Kynard recorded a hit in three at-bats. Kelsey Kaluna-Thomas drew the team’s first walk of 2026. In the circle, Ashtyn Clark and Devyn Dotson each struck out one batter.

Mississippi Valley State is scheduled to face Tennessee-Martin at 3 p.m. Friday, followed by a rematch with Saint Louis at 5:30 p.m. The team continues its three-day stay in Tennessee with additional games through the weekend.
